Creating Lasting Changes and Building Healthy Communities in New York City

NEW YORK, NY, April 18, 2018 – Healthfirst, the largest not-for-profit health insurance company in New York City, is proud to partner with the American Heart Association for their Healthy For Good initiative. In celebration of Move More Month, which is a part of the Healthy For Good movement, Healthfirst will host a kickoff event on Wednesday, April 18 from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Van Dyke Community Center in Brooklyn.

Healthfirst celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Healthfirst was founded in 1993 as a not-for-profit corporation sponsored by New York's leading hospitals with a shared mission to improve patient health and well-being. Healthfirst's approach aligns incentives between the health plan and healthcare providers by returning to our sponsor hospitals the savings from higher quality and better care management.

"We are excited to partner with the American Heart Association for Healthy For Good, a movement driving health transformation in underserved communities by providing healthy routines that will directly impact the Brownsville and Claremont communities," said Susan Beane, M.D., Healthfirst Vice President and Medical Director. "This partnership will allow Healthfirst and the American Heart Association to host a series of events and workshops focused on the four pillars of health: eat smart, add color, move more, be well. Incorporating these small changes can make a big difference and can help prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke."

The American Heart Association is the world's leading voluntary organization dedicated to building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. This initiative aims to inspire and promote healthy living by encouraging people to make lasting changes in their health by making simple, incremental changes.

"The American Heart Association in New York City is committed to fighting heart disease and stroke and improving the quality of life of all New Yorkers, regardless of their background or zip code," said Kathy Kauffmann, Senior Vice President, NYC/Long Island, American Heart Association. "With that commitment in mind, we are proud to begin collaborating with Healthfirst on a series of Healthy For Good workshops aimed at directly impacting the health of the residents of the Brownsville and Claremont neighborhoods. By encouraging New Yorkers to eat smart, add color to their meals, move more, and be well, we are creating lasting change and improving the health outcomes of these communities."
